First of all,  a “permalink” is a permanent URL as opposed to a temporary one. If you copy the URL at the top of your search screen, you are copying a temporary URL that will break eventually. Both OneSearch and most databases allow you to generate a permalink by clicking on the word “Permalink” or a paper clip icon. Some databases include the permalink as part of the auto-generated citation.

OneSearch permalinks return you to the bibliographic record in OneSearch.

Database permalinks return you to the bibliographic record in the Database.

Generally speaking, you will want to use Database permalinks which place you one step closer to electronic resources – eBooks, articles, streaming media, etc.
